Rural Family Support Network, Working Group

Fraser Turner, Stephanie Welton, Laura Soles, Patti Kemp

    Friday April 5th, 10:05 am - 12:15 pm

We continue towards developing a nationwide support network for families and partners of rural physicians, building on the information we gathered in St. John’s last year. Together during this session, we will begin to create the infrastructure we can use to connect throughout the year.  Partners are particularly encouraged to attend; everyone is welcome to join and share their perspectives.

    General Interest SESSIONS

The Microbiome: We Are Not Alone

    Gerard MacDonald

    Thursday April 4th, 11:30am-12:30pm

A general interest talk on one of the hottest topics in biology today and its implication for patient care. A brief overview of the history of how we got here, and how this may change the paradigm on how we may manage conditions such as obesity, diabetes, bowel disorders , allergies, malignancies, and pregnancies, as looking at what the literature has to say about probiotics.

What is Real? How the History & Personalities of Quantum Mechanics Affect our Understanding of Reality

    Fraser Turner

    Thursday April 4th, 1:30-2:30pm

The first half of this talk will be an overview of Quantum Mechanics and why it's so difficult to interpret its results (much like the Quantum Consciousness talk at R&R 2018). The latter half will explore different interpretations of Quantum Mechanics and how personalities, politics, and historical events have impacted the debate over which of these provide a better picture of "Reality."

    SRPC Reads

    Patti Kemp

    Friday April 5th, 1:30-2:30pm

Join us for the inaugural meeting of the SRPC Book Club! We only meet once a year, but like every good book club, we’ll talk about books and enjoy good fellowship. This year, we will discuss books from CBC’s Canada Reads. Read one, read none or read them all – it doesn’t matter! Come out for a lively and engaging chat about books, Canada Reads and Canada’s literary landscape.

    Trading Places:

    Immigration & Human Rights Law

    Patti Kemp

    Saturday April 6th, 9:50-10:50am

Join Patti Kemp, a qualified lawyer in England and Canada, as she talks about her experiences working in immigration and human rights law and the relationship between domestic immigration laws and international human rights instruments. Her talk will be of interest to anyone who would like to gain a greater understanding of refugee and humanitarian immigration.

Curly/Wavy Girl Method: Frizz is a Curl Waiting to be Discovered

    Lynne Theriault Sehgal

Running in Medicine: Lessons Learned Qualifying for Boston

    Stephen Loden

    Saturday April 6th, 1:30-2:30pm

A practical approach to marathon training with a focus on improving finish times, appropriate to runners of all levels. It will be appropriate for health professionals and their spouses. I am hoping for the presentation to be light hearted and interactive, with plenty of time for questions and discussion from the audience. I hope we can all learn from the collective wisdom in the room.
