Choosing Wisely Talks | Care Close to Home: What Rural and Remote Communities Can Teach Us About Using Health Care Resources Wisely

COVID-19 has demonstrated that providing care closer to home is long overdue. For populations in rural and remote communities, there are unique challenges including prioritization decisions around where, when, and why to access resources given limited capacity and medical travel considerations. What can we learn from these approaches in the context of COVID-19 related cancellation of surgeries and backlogs in services? And what impact has COVID-19 had on access to care for rural and remote communities?

In November’s Choosing Wisely Talks, we'll hear from Dr. Sarah Cook, a family physician in Yellowknife and Co-Clinical Champion of the Choosing Wisely Northwest Territories campaign, and Dr. Margaret Tromp, a family physician in Moose Factory who led the development of the new Choosing Wisely Canada rural medicine list. Dr. Sarita Verma, Dean, President, and CEO of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, will provide commentary and reflections following the presentation.
