Residents
The SRPC resident Committee is comprised of medical residents from across Canada collectively committed to supporting residents interested in rural and remote medicine.
Resident Committee Co-Chairs

Dr. Nkechi Ikeaba
PGY-2 Family Medicine
University of Toronto
Nkechi (he/him) is a Family Medicine resident at the University of Toronto, Ontario. He earned his medical degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and went on to serve extensively in rural and underserved communities, providing comprehensive primary care.
He reflects that the most fulfilling aspects of rural healthcare were not only the breadth of hands-on clinical experience but also the sense of independence it fostered. Outside of medicine, Nkechi finds joy in classical music. He plays a diverse repertoire on his piano and frequently attends concerts as a way to unwind and stay inspired.

Dr. Tara S Freeman, MD
PGY-1 Family Medicine
University of British Columbia
Tara (she/her) is a Rural Immersion Family Medicine Resident at the University of British Columbia, completing her training in the communities of Chetwynd & Tumbler Ridge. She was born and raised near Coombs on Vancouver Island, where she developed a love for the outdoors. She completed her undergraduate degree in Honours Neuroscience and medical school at the University of Alberta. Outside of residency, Tara enjoys gardening, crafting, canning produce, and playing with her two large dogs and cat. She also spends a great deal of time enjoying the outdoors with her husband. She is excited to combine her passions for inclusive healthcare, challenging medicine, and the rural lifestyle throughout her residency and future career.
