In anticipation of the proposed bylaw changes to be presented at the upcoming AGM, the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada is proactively inviting members to submit their interest in serving as Interim Directors on the Board. Should the bylaw changes be approved, we will need a minimum of three members to bring the Board up to the required nine directors. This proactive approach ensures we are ready to move forward immediately.
Duration: Up to one year (interim until the next AGM).
We are looking for members who:
- Have past involvement with SRPC Council or committees or are early-career physicians interested in becoming more engaged with SRPC.
- Possess governance experience to help guide the organization through this transition.
- Represent diverse perspectives, including Indigenous representation.
- Are energetic, motivated and committed to supporting the SRPC’s mission and strategic priorities.
- May be interested in future leadership roles, such as President-Elect.
Our goal is to have a balanced team: one new member with strong governance experience, and the other two bringing fresh energy and new perspectives to the Board.
Interim Directors will:
- Participate in Board meetings, approximately 1 hour, every 2 months, virtually. Meeting dates are already scheduled: May 11, July 6, Sept 14, Nov 9, 2026, and Jan 11, Mar 8, 2027.
- Contribute to decision-making and provide guidance on governance, strategic planning, and organizational priorities.
- Provide guidance on governance, strategic planning, and organizational priorities.
- Be actively engaged in ongoing email communication and respond in a timely manner.
- Represent the interests of SRPC members across Canada.
- Contribute to committee work as required.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the SRPC during an important transition and help shape the future of rural healthcare leadership in Canada.
Members interested in serving as an Interim Director are invited to submit their expression of interest, including a brief summary of relevant experience, to Jennifer Barr at jenniferm@srpc.ca by April 8, 2026.
We encourage all eligible members who meet the above criteria, new and experienced, early-career and seasoned to consider this important leadership opportunity.
