As part of SRPC’s advocacy work, we have spent a lot of time speaking with MPs about the challenges facing rural physicians, patients, and communities. But some of the most powerful advocacy happens closer to home, when MPs hear directly from the people they represent.
Over the coming months, MPs will have several constituency weeks, when they are back in their ridings and available to meet with constituents. We’d like to encourage SRPC members across the country to take advantage of these opportunities and reach out to your local MP to arrange a meeting.

You don’t need to be an advocacy expert. You are the expert on what rural medicine looks like in your community. Tell your MP what you are seeing. What are the challenges facing your patients, your practice, and your community? What needs to change?
SRPC has prepared a briefing note with key messages to help guide your conversation and highlight the rural health priorities we are bringing forward nationally.
Here’s how you can help:
- Contact your MP’s constituency office and arrange a meeting.
- Bring the SRPC briefing note and talk about what these issues look like in your own community.
- Take a photo with your MP and share it on social media. Tag SRPC so we can amplify your message.
- Send us your photo and a quick note about your meeting so we can share it too.
Local conversations can build a national message.
When MPs across Canada hear the same concerns and priorities directly from rural physicians in their own ridings, it reinforces that these aren’t isolated challenges, but issues affecting rural communities across the country.
