First Five Years in Practice Committee

Kirsten Desjardins-Lorimer
Yellowknife, NT

Kirsten Desjardins-Lorimer is a second year in practice family physician from Ottawa, Ontario with a passion for rural medicine. She completed her undergraduate training at STFX in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and most recently her residency in Vancouver, British Columbia. She spent 18 months doing rural locums throughout Canada including British Columbia, Ontario, Nunavut, Yukon and the Northwest Territories. She now lives and works full time in the NWT. Outside of rural family practice, you can find Kirsten hiking, mountain biking and backcountry camping!

Dr. Kirsten Desjardins-Lorimer is in the process of redeveloping the FFYP Committee. She will represent the whole spectrum of new to practice physicians working in different rural settings.

We hope to have two or three representatives from various provinces/territories to help voice the national landscape and promote our interests. Currently, the board has family practice representation from BC, MB and NL, but welcome applicants from any specialty anywhere in Canada! Please submit a personal letter and CV to ffyp@srpc.ca.

Dr. Desjardins-Lorimer will be attending the SRPC Spring and Fall Council meetings and would appreciate hearing about concerns rural physicians in their first five years in practice have so that she can report and present them to the board. Please feel free to send your email to ffyp@srpc.ca
