    News Release  -   October 16, 2019

    Here is a joint release from the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada and the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada. The release highlights the lack of attention paid to the health of Indigenous people of Canada during the current election period. It calls on all parties to address the systemic challenges resulting in poor health outcomes for this population.

    Progress Made in the Rural Road Map Implementation

    Emerging Rural Health Care - The Time to Act is Now.


    The Rural Road Map Implementation Committee (RRMIC) has made significant progress raising awareness across Canada
    about the need for improved access to rural health care close to home, as highlighted in the attached update. Emerging
    collaborative efforts have been made with the RRMIC and allied organizations.

    June 06, 2018 - The SRPC released the following joint statement with the CFPC and OCFP today

    SRPC/CFPC/OCFP Joint Statement

    June 12, 2018 - CAEP issued a press release and a statement expressing concern about the CPSO Policy "Expectations Physicians not Certified in Emergency Medicine Intending to Include Emergency Medicine as a Part of their Rural Practice Changing Scope of Practice Process."  The SRPC supports this statement and looks forward to continued collaboration with CAEP to ensure that rural Canadians receive optimal emergency care.

    This joint position paper has been prepared by the Joint Position Paper Working Group and approved by the Canadian Association of Midwives, the  Canadian Association of Perinatal and Women’s Health  Nurses, the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada.

    A review of the current literature on issues of maternity care relevant to rural populations underpins 14 recommendations prepared and approved by 5 national physician, midwifery and nursing organizations. This review and these recommendations are intended to help rural obstetric care providers to continue to provide quality care for women in their communities.
