30th Annual Rural and Remote Medicine CourseApril 20 - 22, 2023Niagara Falls | Scotiabank Convention Centre |
Continuing Excellence in the Next GenerationWe are excited to welcome you to Niagara Falls and the 30th Annual Rural & Remote Medicine Course. This year, while we will continue to offer excellent peer-to-peer teaching on the subjects rural physicians need (emergency, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, emergency preparedness, family medicine practice, and more), we are focusing on teaching and mentoring in rural practice. We are all asked to prepare the next generation of practitioners, and we at the SRPC want to help you do just that. Our plenary speakers will share about rural generalist care and providing it (yes, this needs work) on the international, national and SRPC home-grown levels while guiding the physicians who will take this on after we retire. Our speakers and workshops from across Canada will leave you with more confidence, whether in managing ADHD, inserting chest tubes, providing palliative care, or teaching medical students and residents. Add to this the usual convivial, interactive and social culture of Rural & Remote, and there will be lots of networking with your colleagues from across the country. As it is the early spring of the Niagara region, you will want to book your time off now and join us at Rural & Remote 2023! |

"The main draw is the opportunity to come together once a year to share current trends in rural healthcare and rural medical education. When these two topics come together during the discussions collaboratively - it is truly energizing! The passion of rural medicine/family medicine as a generalist within the established physicians now intermingling with the topics of newly graduated practicing physicians and their families is an exciting synergy." - Anonymous Review. |

ECG interpretation is a core competence of Family Physicians but is often taught using pattern recognition that leads to difficulty with complex or atypical ECGs. This course explains the basics of electrophysiology using a simplified approach that is well suited to Residents and practicing Family Physicians. 4 hours of preparatory narrated PowerPoint slides on ECG basics, bradycardias, tachycardias and ST changes ensures that you need to know everything you need to know before you show up for the course. Once at the session, we do a brief review then spend the next 4 hours practicing ECG interpretation arranged by topic in order to build mastery of each ECG facet. We finish with a 60 min integrated interactive exam that allows you to test your knowledge and correct any lingering deficiencies.
